In today's episode of the Mind Set Game Podcast, I sat down with Dr Amber Baker.
Are you your best friend? Psychologist #inspiration Interactions don't constitute therapeutic relationship/not advice or treatment.
"I moved over 20 times by the time I was thirteen-years-old. I
learned how to connect with people in each unique area I lived,
from Long Beach, California to the English countryside. I adapted
by tuning into the newest peers, teachers, and neighbors and the
culture around me. I became a chameleon and reflected what I
thought people would like to see. However, this began to take a
toll. I didn't feel good enough to just be me. I constantly reached
for what seemed like the best mask for the time and place instead
of showing my real self.
Over time I have discovered more about who I really am underneath
it all and have practiced sharing my real self with the world. I am
on this journey right there with you, every day working on
strengthening my relationship with myself and not only accepting my
self, my quirks, flaws, strengths, struggles and often botched
attempts at "dad jokes," but also owning who I am a little more
each day.
I have the ultimate privilege of witnessing and, at times,
assisting others as they learn to appreciate, accept and own who
they are. We can see and connect to the world around us and
ourselves so much better without a mask. I also understand how
vulnerable and naked we can feel without it. That is why I am
determined to provide inspiration and information to support others
in knowing, accepting and strengthening their relationship with
their self.
Go, Friend, Your Self!"
