The Mindset Athlete Podcast

Jun 22, 2017

In today's episode of the Mind Set Game podcast, I sat down with John Amaechi.

John is a psychologist and New York Times best-selling author. In the US and Europe, he works with aspiring and already high-achieving individuals as well as medium to large-sized organisations looking for an edge.  He is often retained to help identify and implement ways to increase productivity by improving communication & leadership skills, organisational culture and climate – often where mainstream options have failed.

He’s proven himself adept at achieving the seemingly impossible by scaling to the heights of the best basketball league in the world, the National Basketball Association, after starting the game aged 17. From first picking up a ball, he went to a ‘starting five’ position on the Cleveland Cavaliers in just six years.  His personal drive, perseverance and planning are augmented by his post-retirement research and education in psychology. He is a true ‘triple threat’ when working with individuals and organisations that want to change.

The topics that John and I spoke about include:

How do you differentiate between a team and group of individuals?
How do you get to an optimal team environment?
How did your STEP theory come about and how can I implement that in my life (mindset to an approach for good or for bad - the size of the step doesn't always = the consequence )? Clever ways to remember (e.g. names) What does mindfulness mean to you? What strategies do you employ to unwind? How to get to sleep in 3 breaths? Using meditation to improve your job, Making mindfulness functional, What is the importance of 'ME' time, Public perception vs privacy, Dealing with those negative thoughts in your head, Steps to Overcoming these thoughts and finally Agents of Disruption (CHANGES - ADAPTABILITY)
